As always, the starting location for the ride will be announced later this spring, with the actual route kept under wraps to dissuade the public from lining the streets in advance, posing a possible public safety hazard for attendees. The World Naked Bike Ride is officially a protest — against our dependency on oil, for cyclist safety and in support of body positivity. Attendees are also encouraged to adopt their own causes, often using their bare backs as protest signs. The event's motto is "bare as you dare," encouraging riders to dress down to their comfort. That means while there will certainly be thousands of nude cyclists, there will also be plenty of people riding topless or in costumes.
Coronavirus: Portland’s annual Naked Bike Ride canceled
Photo: J. In about five weeks 10, people will fill Portland streets on bikes wearing nothing or next to nothing at all. There are not many things that would keep me away from this ride. The roll-out will start at 9 p.
The coronavirus pandemic has led to another canceled event. The annual event typically announces its starting location in advance but not the route of the ride, to prevent crowds of onlookers. After gathering, cyclists are escorted by police through town, to the delight or disdain of local residents. But not this year.
